Will You Be Happy With the Choice to Become a Virtual Assistant?

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

One of the most common reasons why individuals – and yes, that includes both women and men – make the choice to become a virtual assistant is that they are looking for the opportunity to branch out on their own and to put the skills that they’ve developed to work for themselves. In other words, most people who make the choice to become a virtual assistant do so because they are looking for the opportunity to run a business of their own. They look at becoming a virtual assistant as something that will enable them to reach their goals without having to dramatically change their lifestyles.

But there are still plenty of folks who, when they think about whether or not to become a virtual assistant aren’t sure whether or not the decision will make them happy. Would you be happy?

There’s a tendency in becoming a virtual assistant to think that joy automatically comes with independence; ask those who are happiest about their choice to become a virtual assistant and you’re likely to find that the happiness really comes from a sense of success. They’ll also tell you, however, that there are a few easy ways to ensure success:

  1. Make sure that you understand your skills.
  2. Focus on providing the best services possible.
  3. Get the business training that you need to learn how to market your business and to provide great customer service.
  4. Make sure that you are able to get support when you need it.

Becoming a VA: What to Expect

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

One of the best things that you can do when you are thinking about becoming a virtual assistant is to look into training with someone who has already been there; ultimately, the reason for this has a lot less to do with what you can do to get your business off the ground and up and running and a lot more to do with the fact that you will be able to talk with someone who has already gone through the process.

When you are working on becoming a virtual assistant, you are going to find that it’s a lot easier to get started when you move beyond the basics of what services you’ll want to provide. When you take the time to look into working with a mentor and getting training when you become a virtual assistant, what you are going to find is that you’re in a position in which you’ll be able to learn more about the less obvious parts of running a business.

In other words, when you become a VA what you’re going to want to think about is what’s involved in writing a business plan and marketing your company more than you’re going to want to just think about what you’ll be able to offer your clients.

Becoming a VA: Avoiding the Impulse to Take the Easy Way Out

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

One of the great things about becoming a virtual assistant is that it gives you the freedom to go to work for yourself – and, in a lot of cases that means that you will be able to get the job done your way. But, as a word of caution, when you become a virtual assistant, you are going to want to be sure that doing things your way doesn’t just mean looking for the easy way out.

There are some VAs who want to be sure that they look great, that they are able to communicate effectively; unfortunately, they also just jump on the impulse to “borrow” content from other sources without attributing it, claiming it as their own. Those who make the choice to go about doing their business by taking shortcuts – particularly those who take a shortcut that show no respect for copyright laws and the intellectual property of others – are going to find that they are not going to find success as a VA.

Simply put, when you become a VA, if you take shortcuts like plagiarism, those whose content you use will find out, and if you’re unable to be professional when you’re marketing yourself you’re not going to get the business you want – because your prospects are going to worry about the work that you do for them too. In other words, taking the easy way is not going to help you out; when you become a virtual assistant, you need to be willing to do the work.

Why Not Go After Your Dreams and Become a Virtual Assistant?

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

One of the things that you’re going to want to think about when you start to consider becoming a virtual assistant is the opportunity that you have to pursue your dreams. While you may be doing much the same work after you become a virtual assistant as you were doing while working for someone else, you’ll still find that there is a key difference: when you become a virtual assistant you’ll be working for yourself.

In other words, if you have always dreamed of running your own business, if you’ve always wanted to be able to set your own schedule and to focus on the goals that you have without waiting for someone else to tell you what your next step should be, becoming a virtual assistant is going to let you realize that dream.

The more that you are able to go after your dreams, the more that you will start to find yourself reaching your goals. The more that you are able to reach your goals by becoming a virtual assistant, the more that you will find yourself moving toward them – and becoming increasingly motivated to set and reach further goals as well.

Become a Virtual Assistant: Something to Keep in Mind

Friday, October 24th, 2008

One of the things that is remarkably important to keep in mind when you become a virtual assistant is fairly straightforward: you are going to be running your own business. In other words, not only are you going to find that you are in a position to be the one who determines how many hours of work you are doing, not only will you be drafting and writing a business plan and not only will you have the chance to choose which clients you work with, but also you are going to find that it’s important to recognize your limits.

When you become a virtual assistant, one of the things that you’re going to find is that it’s up to you to create contracts with your clients. Yes, the tasks that you are responsible for are going to be determined by your clients, however you are going to have a considerable say in the terms of the agreement. You are the one who will be setting rates for services and both you and your client will need to determine whether or not you continue renewing.

In other words, when you become a virtual assistant, you won’t just be able to open up and get everything done; you’re going to have to find what works for you while you’re running your business.
