There are a lot of resources for Virtual Assistants. I recommend the following resources.

1. www.VAnetworking.com has information on How to become a Virtual Assistant.

2. This book is very helpful to anyone who is interested in the VA industry. It has a lot of helpful information in it. Virtual Assistant the Series, Become a Highly Successful, Sought After VA by Diana Ennen & Kelly Poelker

I definitely think a person needs to think carefully and weigh the pros and cons before choosing to start a virtual assistant business. I know when I was deciding it really helped me to interact with people who already owned their own VA businesses over at the free VAnetworking forums. They answered so many questions for me!

You're right on! As a virtual assistant who really enjoys writing, I sometimes get requests from fellow VAs who are, as you put it, "don't see themselves as writers". Most people have pretty good idea as to what they want to say, but struggle to make it original, unexpected, captivating. Ghost writers, especially the ones that have direct experience in the same field and/or niche, are invaluable in such situations. My only other comment is to not cut corners on payments for these services - you DO get what you pay for!

Hi,

I just found your blog and have been reading several of the entries. Great advice. I just started my VA business this year and found that once I had joined a few networking venues, in person and online, that I didn't feel out on my own anymore. I decided that is one of the needed things to do when working from home. It's hard being alone... but by going out once a week to my Business Breakfast Club or joining in some online chats with other VAs (I mostly join in the VAnetworking one every week, http://www.vanetworking.com/seminars one) I find I don't feel lonely.
Yes I also get out on a regular basis with friends and the kids, but having support from people who understand your woes is very helpful.

Hi Kandra .. Virtual Assistants certainly do have an opportunity to gain training in various areas. There are more and more skill building programs out there, specifically designed to help Virtual Assistants build their business.

My partner Tina Forsyth and I are offering the Hot Skills VA Training Program (www.HotSkillsVATraining.com) again, starting on October 7th. It's a skill building program for VAs who want to work primarily with online based business owners suches as coaches, trainers, speakers, authors etc.

There is a huge demand and opportunity for Virtual Assistants to find great clients when they have the knowledge, skills and expertise business owners are looking for.

I couldn't agree more. As a virtual assistant and mother of a four-year old, finding the balance can be challenging. My husband also works from home though so we are able to spend time as a family each and every day. We make sure to take time out each day to read with our daughter, teach her the piano, and make sure she gets the attention she needs. She has her own desk in our office where she can play educational computer games and her own drawer with paper and colors.

I try to get the laundry started and kitchen cleaned before I start my work day - just like I would if I worked outside the home. At lunch time I do other household chores - just like I used to do when I worked away from home but came home for lunch. I do have to work on doing less work on the weekends. But we still find time to play - go for a drive, have friends over, watch movies.
