Running a VA Business: Having Reasonable Expectations

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

When you are going to be running a VA business, one of the things that you are going to want to be sure of is that you are working with reasonable expectations. This advice is something that can expand over a number of different levels.

First, you are going to want to be sure that when you are running a VA business you have reasonable expectations of yourself. Simply put, while you might thing that you can schedule yourself to work 7 days a week for 12 hours a day, you’re going to approach burnout really quickly.

Similarly, you are going to want to be sure that when you are running a VA business your clients have reasonable expectations about what you will be doing for them. If you just let your clients take more and more without saying anything, you’re going to find that there’s a whole lot more that you are going to need to do - even if it’s more than you are able to do.

Finally, you are going to want to be sure that, while you are running a VA business you are paying attention to the expectations that you have for your clients; for example, expecting to be paid in full each month before you’re willing or able to do any work for your clients may not be the best plan.
