Running a VA Business: Being a Professional
Sunday, July 6th, 2008There are two types of people who make the choice to run virtual assistant businesses. First, there are those who decide that they can just get a web site and start advertising to say that they are running a VA business – those who are less likely to succeed. And then there are those who make the choice to become a virtual assistant and run a VA business because they want to go into business for themselves and because they know that they have the experience that other business owners need to have.
The key to running a successful VA business is being a professional: when you are offering professional services, even when your clients may never see more than a photo of you, it’s important that you think and act like a professional. Simply put, when you’re looking at running a VA business, it’s important that you know that you are looking at running a business.
While running a VA business, you’re going to want to be sure that you are presenting yourself as a professional. Communication is important. Reliability is important. So is doing your best work on the projects that you undertake. Not only is it important for you, but also it’s important for others who are running a VA business; while you’re working independently and have your own business, keep in mind that it’s a field that others go into as well. When you are able to present yourself as a professional, you’ll find that you aren’t just promoting yourself, you’re representing others who have made the choice to enter the field to.
